"New American": Nolita House - 47 East Houston Street (Mulberry & Mott Streets)

Great local place with a good vibe. The menu is a combo of upscale comfort food (mac/cheese, burgers, pizzas, roasted chicken, etc.) and Mediterranean-influenced specials (and others, such as Mexican specials on certain nights). The waiters are extremely friendly and the wine selection is great (but a little pricey relative to the affordable food). The small bar area is often lively with sports on the one flat-screen TV. The desserts are ok, but go for the Artisinal cheese selection (ask the owners for recommendations).
